Help for Stress is as Close as Your Breath
Mental stress is a physiological response to events that upset or threaten an individual’s balance. Unfortunately, the mind does not distinguish between a perceived threat and a real threat. The state of emergency that accompanies a person with many responsibilities and worries, where they are under psychological stress all the time, can lead to ongoing health problems. The benefits of using meditation, to overcome stress, however, can be noticed in as little as one session.
Psychological Stress – The Bane of the Overachievers
Meditation can be a wonderful escape, but in order to fully take advantage of the value that meditation offers, the practitioner must understand that the state of disorder in their lives must be resolved. The overwhelming fear of failing or not succeeding that drives many to obsessively fill their lives with unachievable goals will cancel any positive affects that meditation will offer. Trying harder or thinking through problems will not achieve the calm, clear resolution to the disorder. Order will not come together with thought.

Depression = Stress and Relaxation Breathing = Recovery
To overcome stress through meditation, or with any path, is to find the silence. A quiet mind that is free of thought will be able to see things clearly. The mind is continually subjected to sensory input taxing the brain since it is always thinking and engaged in constant mental stress. The modern western person is a slave to endless desires that go unfulfilled causing frustration and depression. Meditation will enlighten the individual of the underlying struggle and free the mind to cope with the disappointment.
Watch and Observe – Meditation Training
A quiet mind can observe and see things clearly. This is done without prejudice, comparison or conflict. If the mind is constantly going, or chattering to itself, it is impossible to hear what caring people are saying. To alleviate psychological stress, the mind must be silent in order for it to interpret the external world with clarity. The external and the internal worlds are the same since the mind translates the external world through its internal process. When the outside world is examined with clarity, then the inner world will follow suit.

Anxiety Relaxation Techniques Found in the 5 Levels of Meditation
There are five levels of meditation that will help reduce stress. Objects are made up of the five elements of water, fire, air, earth and space. Focusing on the more intricate aspects of the observed items, deepens the meditation and allows the practitioner to observe where they are and where they are going. The first level is Gross Level focusing on the whole whether it is an object, energy or an attitude. The second level is the Subtle Level where the focus is shifted to the finer aspects of the focused object. When attention goes beyond the gross and subtle levels, where they recede into the background, the state achieved is the Bliss Level. Once meditation has moved beyond bliss, the next level is the I-ness Level. This level is where the focus is shifted into individuality. The fifth level is the Objectless Level. Different from the other five levels where there is support, this level is objectless attention and stillness. This results in a clear and alert mind.
Stop the hectic pace and the unrealistic goals. Anxiety and stress are not favorable motivators to getting things done. Evaluate the top three priorities and stick with those. Everything else is just scenery.
